28,000 young people experience homelessness on any given night in Australia.

The main causes of homelessness for young people is family breakdown, domestic and family violence and the housing crisis.

The main ways young people experience homelessness is severely crowded dwellings, supported accommodation for the homeless and couch surfing.

Young people who identify as women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, LGBTQIA+ and those born overseas are all overrepresented in homelessness statistics.

Silver Lining

On April 20th 2022, HoMie, Whitelion, Silver Lining and Tommy Little joined forces to launch “Hoodies4Homelessness,” a day of awareness and advocacy on Wednesday , Youth Homelessness Matters Day.

An annual fundraising event that aims to get 28,000 Australian's wearing a hoodie on Youth Homelessness Matters Day, to reflect the number of young people experiencing homelessness on any given night in our country.

In its first year 7,000 people came on board, and HoMie sold more than $250,000 worth hoodies in one night.

HoMie supports young people affected by homelessness or hardship to equip them with the skills, confidence, and experiences to be more work-ready and better prepared for their future.

Whitelion Youth is a community organisation committed to helping at-risk youth in Australia, assisting them to break the cycle of disadvantage and giving them the courage to grow.
